About Angry Nun Productions

Angry Nun Productions is an Austin, Texas based movie production company patterned on the Roger Corman model. Run by a father-son team, ANP is dedicated to producing a stream of low to medium-budget genre movies, and in the process develop little-known and under-utilized talent, and grow the movie business in Austin and the surrounding area.

Roger Corman is known for having produced and/or directed over 400 movies, all profitable except one. But Corman was more than just a prolific producer/director, he and his company, New World Pictures, provided the launching pad for a virtual who's who of film and acting talent. Directors who got their start with Corman include Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Peter Bogdanovich, Armondo Linus Acosta, Jonathan Demme, Gale Anne Hurd, Joe Dante, James Cameron, John Sayles, Monte Hellman, Paul Bartel, George Armitage, Jonathan Kaplan, George Hickenlooper, Curtis Hanson, and Jack Hill. Actors who obtained their career breaks working for Corman include Jack Nicholson, Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Michael McDonald, Dennis Hopper, Talia Shire, Robert De Niro, and David Carradine. By embracing the genre of low to medium-budget pictures, Corman was able to "take a chance" on new talent that larger big-budget studios could not afford to do.

Angry Nun Productions looks to Corman's approach as a blueprint for its own success. With three features under its belt and two more slated to be shot in 2010, ANP plans to begin shooting up to four movies per year by 2012. By restricting its productions to low and mid-budget genre movies ANP is able to control its financial risk, freeing it to explore opportunities much like Corman did, and in the process discover and develop new talent in the areas of acting, directing, and writing.
